Foreign languages on DivXLand Media Subtitler

  Introduction

This brief guide explains how to configure your system and DivXLand Media Subtitler to work with foreign languages (other than Western European) properly.

In this example we will setup the Windows regional and language settings to work with Korean subtitles on DMS, but of course the same instructions apply for any other language.

This guide assumes you already have installed DivXLand Media Subtitler and Windows Media Player.

Step 1: Ensure required files are present

In the Windows' control panel, go to Regional and Language Options. At the Languages tab, make sure both options under Supplemental language support are enabled, as shown below.

Notice you might need your Windows setup CD in to install these files.

Step 2: Set language for non-unicode programs

Switch to the Advanced tab and from the drop-down list at Language for non-unicode programs select the language you wish to work with, in this example will be Korean.

Click OK to proceed. You might need to restart Windows in order for this setting to take effect.

Step 3: Set charset on DivXLand Media Subtitler

Finally you must set the character set for subtitles on DivXLand Media Subtitler. To do so, go to Settings > General Settings, and at the Language and Encoding tab select the proper encoding from the Subtitles character set drop-down list, then click OK.

This setting must be applied before opening or creating the subtitle or text file.

  Done!

Now you can open and save subtitles on any language properly. Below you can see a screenshot from DivXLand Media Subtitler working with a Korean subtitle file with an episode from the popular anime InuYasha.

If you have problems using these settings, don't hesitate to contact the author by email.
