The recommended settings to use for a good quality encoding are:

Constant-bitrate MP3 audio with at least 112 Kbps
Avoid using video bitrates lower than 700 Kbps
Video resolution of 640x480 or larger if required

To find out the current audio information from a media file, either open its Properties dialog from Windows Explorer, or open the file with GSpot to view advanced media info.
